The earliest date I can find on one of my pots is 2015. Realising I’ve been working with mud for 10 years hit me hard, like turning around and walking straight into a cabinet door you forgot to close. It’s been many years since I last made functional pieces, so I decided to use the last of the clay in my studio to make these vessels. The glazes are gathered across a decade of practice, together they form a kind of glassy archive of my studio.
Each vessel is stoneware, thrown on the wheel. They’re larger than the functional ware I used to make; I wanted to give them a real sense of presence. No two are the same, though sometimes I get into grooves at the wheel, and you’ll see echoes. I’ve grouped them into sets that felt right.
